#MyMusicStory

Submitted by: Katie Ditschun (Website,Twitter,Facebook,Instagram)

I started piano lessons at age four. I studied classical piano and voice through my teen years. I loved playing and singing, especially songs from beloved musicals. I loved being able to sit at the piano and have the world melt away as a became further and further entranced by the music I was playing and singing.

In my mid-twenties, I returned to studying music — at Berklee. It was there that I was introduced to jazz and Blues. Suddenly, my learning the language of music through the lens of jazz, ALL music made more sense! There was no longer a disconnect between the playing and the theoretical. It was like a giant light bulb turned on and my passion for music was now burning brighter.

Jazz and Blues give musicians opportunity to try new things, to be bold or playful, sexy or subtle, joyous or melancholy, or all of it! How wonderful it is to truly dig into the music and offer an interpretation as unique as each individual musician. I love it.
