#MyMusicStory

In 1992 I was traveling on a bus throughout the lush Malaysian jungle while waiting for my visa to come through for a performance in Singapore. I’d just finished a gig for the Sultan of Brunei, and I was overwhelmed by all the new dramatic environments, the excitement, fear, loneliness, pressure to perform… all the things one can experience being young, alone, and far from home. I had one cassette tape with me: Joni Mitchell’s Hejira. I listened to it over and over again, and each new listen gave me comfort and courage, and so much to reflect on. It’s a masterpiece of an album that never gets old.
