#MyMusicStory

‘Duncan’ by Paul Simon is the song that comes to mind when I think of why I started writing songs in the first place. I heard it when I was a young kid in my parents basement flipping through their vinyl collection, finding magic upon magic; there was always something about ‘Duncan’ that felt special.

As a son of a tradesman, the story resonated with me. I had always longed to do something special with my life, leaving the “boredom and the chowder” in the small town I grew up in. My answer to this was to escape by writing songs and telling stories. I wanted to be a creator of beautiful things and be the source of magic for other kids, sitting in their parents’ basements with big dreams.

All these years later I still feel like Lincoln Duncan playing guitar underneath the stars and thanking the heavens for my fingers. Everytime that flute kicks in I ride a wave of euphoria knowing that no matter how old I get, beauty and adventure would always be there waiting.

Stan Simon began writing songs at an early age in Toronto, Ontario crafting poignant melodies on a broken classical guitar from his father. Largely influenced by vintage folk and country records, Simon delivers earnest lyrics, sung with a vocal prowess, sharp harmonica and a rustic acoustic sound that resonates through your body.
